Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is a luxury hotel located on a legendary, expansive site full of greenery, and admired as a retreat in the center of Tokyo. Its picturesque 12.4-acre Meiji-era gardens welcome guests to an authentic tea ceremony at the 100-year-old teahouse, or a stroll past the three-story pagoda with its 700 years of history.

The hotel’s 38 function rooms include one of the largest in Tokyo, seating up to 2,000 guests. In addition to 267 guest rooms there are 9 restaurants, and an award-winning spa with a large pool and traditional onsen bath. Discover the essence of Japanese hospitality.

The garden has a rich and colorful 700-year history intertwined with historic figures including prime minister Yamagata Aritomo. A majestic three-story pagoda dating back to the 14th century dominates the skyline, offering an unobstructed vantage point for visitors to enjoy the magnificent views of the changing seasons; vibrant cherry blossoms in the spring, magical twinkling of fireflies, verdant green summer gardens, the deep red of autumn leaves, and the pure white beauty of powdered snow in winter.

The first sight to witness after checking in is the setting sun over the three-story pagoda in the verdant garden, best viewed from the expansive guest room windows. And when the morning sun rises again, an entirely different vision of the garden presents itself. We encourage guests to savor a quiet stroll around the grounds in the still hours before breakfast. The fresh air, lush greenery, and sunlight shining among the leaves soothe the soul, while the beautifully swimming nishikigoi (koi) and the three-story pagoda that is a tangible cultural property tell of a rich history.

Guests won’t want to miss out on the spa. As natural light streams into the pool area nestled among the trees, they can experience the luxury of a resort environment right in the middle of Tokyo. The pool area features a jet bath and two kinds of saunas, while the poolside is just the place for reading a good book in the relaxing atomosphere.

Also of special note is that an onsen bath can be experienced here in Tokyo. The water is transported in from Shizuoka prefecture’s famous hot spring location, Ito. Attractively built from wood and stone, the onsen lets guests immerse themselves or dip in halfway to soothe body and soul. The warm water promotes circulation, heightening the effects of massage treatments. Treatments use vigorous strokes to ease tension from the journey, comprising a menu of 30 treatments including soothing aromas. There are even treatments exclusive to our hotel, which are sure to delight guests.

For dinner, the sushi counter serves a menu of seasonal catches rich in variety, prepared with aplomb by our expert chef, and tailored just to guests’ liking. Take a break from oily foods and experience the simple delight of vinegared rice, sashimi, and shellfish. For a light dinner, the locations nestled in our garden, soba dining Mucha-an and stone grill restaurant Mokushundo are ideal choices. Soba is famous around the world for its healthy nutrition. Why not sample firm homemade soba in a fine old building like a hidden retreat within the garden?  Likewise, the stone-grilled restaurant Mokushundo is truly a symbol of Japan, with meals grilled on lava stones from Mt. Fuji. By heating foods using infrared rays instead of oil, our meals have gained acclaim from health-conscious guests the world over. The succulent “Wagyu” beef is an absolute must.

Various unique cultural experiences are available for guests to enjoy at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo such as a garden tour, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony experience, traditional kimono fitting, a samurai swordsmanship experience, making your own hand-baked rice crackers at the local senbei store, and more. And the neighborhood around Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo is rich with museums, Buddhist temples, shrines, and universities. This center of cultural activity was once the site of four residences of the former Prime Minister. Enjoy the town, or relax in the hotel.
