There is a cluster of small villages known as Akiyamago near Echigo-Yuzawa, one hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo. Nestled deep in the mountains, the remote community is composed of eight hamlets in Niigata and five hamlets in Nagano. Snow starts to fall daily in late November, piling up to five meters in some places. This is the biggest heavy snowfall area in Japan. You will be able to experience a special Japanese life in deep snow.
The day trip bus tour to the world's snowiest area "Akiyamago." The bus departs and arrives at Nozawa Onsen and Echigo-Yuzawa during the winter season. This is a wellness plan that is perfect for a break day during your ski trip. You will experience an outside hot spring bath at one of the best unexplored hot springs, "Riverside hot spring bath." Then you will take a stroll through hidden, scenic, snow-covered landscapes by snowshoe trekking.

In Akiyamago, another tour is planned from March 2020. Snow will remain here until April, so you will be able to enjoy snow activities. But when you hear the sound of trickling water, it means spring is around the corner. As the snow starts to melt, plants sprout and the local mountain vegetables come into season. If you are visiting there in springtime, you have to try the mountain vegetables.
